Do you have recommendations for fantasy books?

tragicophelias:

Always! As you haven’t specified what kind of fantasy I’m going to give you some of my favourites across the board and you are welcome to come back and ask for something more specific;

High Fantasy

this is something I’ve always loved but struggled with as I get older and become more and more aware of the lack of women or the way that they are poorly treated, so here are two that have a strong female presence;

the Mistborn Trilogy by Brandon Sanderson
the Kingmaker Kingbreaker Sequence by Karen Miller

Urban Fantasy

my all time favourite urban fantasy author is seananmcguire;

the October Daye books are her faeries in modern San Francisco and they’re my favourite of the two series I’m rec’ing here.

the Incryptid series is all about monster hunters, but more importantly (and primarily) it is about MONSTERS.

Fairytales/Folktales/Similar Aesthetic

Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor. Angels and demons but not as you know them. Seriously; erase all expectations you have about angels and demons and you’ll enjoy this book more.

Wildwood Dancing + Cybele’s Secret by Juliet Marillier. Gorgeous Romanian folklore/fairytale.

EXCELLENT YOUNG ADULT FANTASY (because the last ask I responded to was about YA and the next one is also because YA is the greatest)

the Lynburn Legacy by another favourite author; sarahreesbrennan, sassy teen sleuths and sorcery in a small country town.

the Curse Workers trilogy by Holly Black. MOBSTERS WITH MAGIC POWERS. Enough said.

Monstrous Beauty by Elizabeth Fama. Mermaids! Ghosts! Mystery!

as per usual I have so many more recommendations and people are welcome to come and ask for them.
