I don't know if you've answered anything like this before but I'm wanting to get more into mythology (specifically Greek, Norse, and Celtic) and was wondering what some good stories/books you'd recommend for them were. Also any other mythology's you'd recommend would be cool too, because I'd honestly love to bury myself in this.

facinaoris:

sorry this is late! classes have been kicking my fucking ass. so i’ll break this list into four sections (greek, norse, celtic, and mesoamerican) and i’m so sorry if this isn’t as organized as you’d like.

1. We were in tune like synchronised swimmers.
Now I learn to navigate the oceans on my own.
[delete]

2. I sobbed on public transport yesterday.
I wanted to call you but then remembered
I’m not allowed to.
[delete]

3. The truth is: I know I’m better off
without you, but these memories
keep tricking me.
[delete]

4. You make me feel like a walking cliché.
I need to stop romanticising leaving,
stop comparing your collar bones to
valleys and your freckles to constellations.
[delete]

5. Can you jumpstart my heartbeat again?
I’m running so low on fuel.
[delete]

6. God knows I need to delete your number.
[delete]

7. Please don’t ever contact me again.
[delete]

8. Perhaps we were destined to falter
from the start,
just as Venice is doomed to sink.
[delete]

9. Speaking of Venice,
you should visit while there
is still time.
[delete]

10. You made the words
feel just right. Now they spin
off kilter.
[delete]

11. You had little nicknames for me.
I secretly miss being called moon shell,
tiger, fairy nymph.
[delete]

12. Maybe we were just a collection
of dead ends and false starts.
We should have been disqualified
from the beginning.
[delete]

13. Grief is the same in any language.
I mourn you. I collect flowers and place them
on your grave in the cemetery.
[delete]

14. You are so much more than human.
[delete]

15. Despite all of this, there is some
beautiful solitude in sleeping with
only my heartbeat
for company.

this is my
skeleton,
buried in
the grave
of my body.

these
are my bones
are my bones
are my
bones.

please,
i do not want
to see them.
do not dig up
my coffin.

it’s enough
to know
they are
in there,
isn’t it?

explain then:
why am i
always trying
to look
inside?

i don’t want to look like death // do i? - a. davida jane (via francisabernthy)

objectoccult:

Before the availability of the tape recorder and during the 1950s, when vinyl was scarce, people in the Soviet Union began making records of banned Western music on discarded x-rays. With the help of a special device, banned bootlegged jazz and rock ‘n’ roll records were “pressed” on thick radiographs salvaged from hospital waste bins and then cut into discs of 23-25 centimeters in diameter. “They would cut the X-ray into a crude circle with manicure scissors and use a cigarette to burn a hole,” says author Anya von Bremzen. “You’d have Elvis on the lungs, Duke Ellington on Aunt Masha’s brain scan — forbidden Western music captured on the interiors of Soviet citizens.”

revelation: amen, amen, amen
you repeat to yourself as his body
joins with the Spirit of Christ; no
matter how much you love him, it’s
useless, he’s just a messenger now

congregation: amen, amen, amen
you repeat to yourself as you hear
another one of his sermons; you see
him and yet you barely recognize him,
he’s changed you see, no longer a man
but a toy for the gods to play with

salvation: amen amen amen
you repeat to yourself as you pull
his body from the rubble; he’s dead
and that means his curse is now over,
hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah
